Devaki holds a Masters in Dance Movement Psychotherapy from Goldsmiths, University of London and is a qualified Hatha Yoga instructor trained at Abhijna School of Yoga in Kerala. She also comes from a family of well-known Kirtan-makers.
Devaki is originally from Vancouver, Canada and now a long time South Londoner. She is a veteran in the music industry, spending 10 years in touring band, Samsara in Canada, co-founding/directing an award-winning sacred music & dance 3-day event, the Komasket Music Festival, for 10 years and is a founding member of reggae funk dance band Sunflower here in London playing drums and vocals.
Recording and playing with prominent artists including The Wailers, Jon Anderson (Yes), Buffy St Marie, Arrested Development, Devaki has been exploring spirituality along-side her musical journey for the last 40 years. She was born/raised in the Hare Krishna faith, and while no longer a part of this has been infused with the chanting/Kirtan practice as a way of connecting to herself and others. She has shared Kirtan in the UK at the Life Centre, the Study Society, Yogific Festival, Breeze Yoga, Spiritfest, Tempting Failure, Kamatala Festival, The Bedford in Balham through her project Sound & Movement Sanctuary on zoom. She welcomes all participants to share this sacred practice of healing, connecting, expressing and releasing.
